Reflection on ‘Waiting in Silence!’ – March 18 2025

My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. Psalm 62:5-8.

Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. Psalm 62:1-2.

What does the word refuge mean to you? Umbrella, or out of the path of a bully? A safe place. The Bible names God as a safe place when we need protection. When we truly know God as our refuge, it is easier to trust Him in all circumstances.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10. Is your strong tower in the world or beyond? These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:3

Jesus shows how important Jesus is in John 1:1-3. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The Word is Jesus.

Have you ever wondered how we can make God, whom we can’t see our refuge? The author of Psalm 62 is David, a man after God’s own heart. He wrote verses 7 and 8. He had men often wanting to kill him, and it is dangerous shepherding sheep. What did David do when he felt threatened?

In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. Psalm 62:7-8. The world has nothing like this to offer.

Are we the only ones to keep silent? Jesus, too, was silent. But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Matthew 26:6.

But Jesus kept silent. “It is as you said.” Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10.

Somehow, we feel we need to add to the current conversation instead of listening to God’s Word. The questions God asked Job show Who is God! “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:4-7.

The Awe and Wonder of God begins with the details of Creation! Each sunrise and sunset give us a sign of the faithfulness and love of beauty our Lord has for us.

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But, He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So, the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” Matthew 8:23-27.

When we have Jesus, we have the Son of God, who was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:3-4.

There is no other safe place than in the center of God and His Son, Jesus’ Will. They are our defense against fear in this world and offer us salvation. They are our rock, our refuge, and finally salvation for eternity,

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So, we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6.
