August 30, 2022 – Reflections on “You, Lord, Lay the Foundation!”
“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.” Hebrews 1:10.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3.
Reading Hebrews 1:10, I realize that even as God lay a foundation for the Heavens and the Earth; He provided a foundation for each of us. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body. I Corinthians:19-20.
Most public buildings have not completed a building without a cornerstone that was laid first and the rest of the stones are laid regarding that first stone with the name of the builder. Jesus is the cornerstone of the foundation of our lives built around Him. So, then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus, Himself being the cornerstone, in Whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. Ephesians 2:19-21.
We are to set our hopes on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. How shall we store up treasures? They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. I Timothy 6:18-19.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33. What things will be added? “Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6:25.
Thinking about what is important to me in life, I realize that following Jesus in all things such as the next meal, or shelter, is in God’s hands. All I have is God’s Truth and plan for my life. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:33. No wonder part of God’s plan for us is– “Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow…”
Why do I quote the Bible? The two verses in the Bible are what God has done: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2. Where there was nothing, God created the Heavens and earth. How powerful are our Lord God’s Words?
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-4. Each morning, God’s creation continues because God spoke. First through His Prophets, and then through His Son Jesus Christ. How does the writer speak of The Son of God? Jesus did not begin life in Bethlehem laying in the Manger.
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Hebrews 1:3-4.
When did our Lord God give us the assurance to follow Jesus? In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when He came up out of the water, immediately He saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. And a Voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with You, I am well pleased.” Mark 1:9-11.
We search for a Way and the Truth. Where will we find this in a world where there are many ways that beckon us, and where there are more lies than truth? We grow weary of trying to find a Life we can rejoice in. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:6-7.
In this world, we look for relationships and things that last forever. Look no further than Jesus. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8. His promises and all His “I Am’s” are forever. (Book of John).
The inheritance is ours when we love righteousness, and His Way makes us Children of God. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Psalm 45:6-7a.
When God and Job had a conversation, God asks Job question upon question that show the might of God’s power and knowing, “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me if you have understanding.” Job 38:4.
What did God think about even before He lay the foundation? He thought about you and me. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved. Ephesians 1 3-6,
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-38.
