November 8, 2021 – “The Most Wise One in My Life!”

As I considered the people I have known, I didn’t think of them as wise. I didn’t know what being wise meant. I enjoyed being with my grandparents, aunts, and uncles, and my parents, but didn’t think of them as wise.

I learned much from all of them and as I grew up, I enjoyed life, listening to my Dad’s Bible stories and all the things he experienced growing up.

I remembered one teacher because when she laughed, her tummy jiggled.  I wondered if she knew and wondered if she did it on purpose.  It seems I didn’t much like school, unless there was a story involved. I loved my Grosmom Siemens and enjoyed the challenge of visiting with her as she spoke Plauttdietch. We understood each other.

When I was in the forties decade, someone told me they liked my wisdom.  I broke out in laughter. The one thing I loved doing beside my family and learning how to do new things and teaching school.

My motto for years became ‘How hard can it be?’ I usually found out. I gave my heart to God when I was eight years old. It wasn’t until 2008, that my daughter, Anna, challenged me to write blogs. I began to write stories I heard about family from my Dad and Mom, plus experiences I had.

My Aunt Marie, Mom, and I had a visit once, and after every situation, she said, “And I wondered how it would all turn out.” Her husband, a blind chiropractor, was interesting, as he ran his fingers over the braille book he read and ate his mashed potatoes at 2 o’clock.

Where does wisdom come from?  For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6. If I had known about wisdom, I could have followed these verses.  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.  But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6.

One author wrote an article of how to think like a wise person.  He included the following that come from God’s Truth:- Think before you speak and think for yourself. Self-Control — (Fruit of the Spirit) – Accept other people for who they are.A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. John 13:34. – Don’t judge others but try to understand them. “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37. – Don’t let other people’s negativity upset you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.

The more you read the Bible; and the more you meditate on it, the more you will be astonished with it. Charles Spurgeon.

I saw this as a junior in high school. My Grandfather Suderman came for a visit. Before we left for high school, he slowly opened his Bible and read scripture. I impatiently listened, but when he spoke these words, “I never saw that before!” His blue eyes showed delight and joy in the words he had read.  His life was spent on a farm, his joy was learning new praise songs to teach to the choir he directed.

Now when I see a new connection, or a nugget of wisdom in the scriptures, it isn’t happen-chance. These are from God’s Word, a lifetime of learning and slowly, God readies me for the Joy of Heaven. What is wisdom? It is following God and obeying His Commands.  His commands are not a slogan but lead to Wisdom!

God is the Wisest One in my life, and those that follow His Commands.
