Reflection on “Let not your hearts be troubled!” October 1, 2024
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John14:1-3. ESV.
What can trouble one’s heart? Troubled or anxious means we have a lack of contentment and peace. How can we unravel a troubled and weary heart?
The first memory verse Mother told me to memorize was God is Love. What does a child know of love? A child knows when he or she is wanted and needed. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. I John 4:7-8.
The first memory verse Mother told me to memorize was ‘God is Love’. It was many years before I read these verses: Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. I John 4:7-8.
Mother told me to think about beautiful things when I was worried. Then one day, I chanced upon this scripture in God’s Word: Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9. The promise is the Presence of God who gives us Peace that will be with us. Jesus said, Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. John 14:1b.
Jesus continues, If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3. Amazing! Jesus wants us to be with Him.
When our hearts are troubled, you may be sure we do not believe in God. Again, in John 14:6-7, Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Jesus knew He would be crucified and die and be raised from the tomb after 3 days, He comforted the disciples with these words, But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace, I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:26 – 27.
Have you ever wondered about the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, and why the first three are Love, Joy, and Peace? Galatians 5:22-23. There are 9 fruits. Love is an unfathomable, eternal mystery that cannot be explained or comprehended in this world. Quoted from Reflection on the Fruit of the Spirit.
Is there a place where we can escape from The Holy Spirit? Where can I go from, Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. Psalm 139:7-10.
Jesus is coming again, — He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. Revelation 22:20-21. Jesus, who is the Truth, the Way, and the Life, also says in Revelation 22:12-13. “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
How do we believe in the Lord our God? But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ Jeremiah 7:23.
To obey God, or not? Obedience is the foundation of believing In God and having an untroubled heart. ‘Honor your father and your mother’ is one of the Ten Commandments. I did not obey my mother once and did not wash the dishes. When she came home, she unwrapped a chocolate bar from a tea towel beside the sink.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Lovingkindness and truth go before You. How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your Name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted. Psalm 89:14-16.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! Let them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders. Psalm 107:31-32.
But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Psalm 31:14-15.
