November 30, 2016 – I Chronicles 16:16-18

ichronicles16-16-18This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: “I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.” I Chronicles 16:16-18Once upon a time, there were three brothers. The house they lived in had four bedrooms. One for their sister, one for the parents and one each for the older two brothers.  The younger brother stayed with the older brother until he  became a bother, not a brother at all. Then the younger brother moved in with his second brother for a time.  The younger brother never complained. When they moved to another house, there were five bedrooms. The mother decreed that her youngest son have the largest of the three bedrooms upstairs.  That was his special possession.Through Jesus Christ, God made a blood covenant with those who accept Him. Belonging to Jesus brings a special possession of peace, love and joy. We are promised a place of rest for eternity, known as Heaven. There may be hardships along the way! Yet that special possession of peace, love and joy begins for each of us as we begin our life as a new creature in Christ Jesus. How often we wander in our hearts with loyalties divided, never really belonging. What we desire changes, but the promises from God never change.  When our will becomes His, we find that the belonging that others can never fill.  Though the followers of Jesus become few, the covenant stays sure.Rest in the Lord Jesus, this day and find yourself truly ‘at home’.He said this when you were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan. They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. I Chronicles 16:19-20
