October 3, 2017 – Hebrews 4:14-15
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:14-15.
We have a High Priest, a supreme leader, who has entered Heaven. He lives! Jesus lives! He was crucified, buried, and God raised Him from the dead. He is the Way. While on earth He lived without sin. He faced the same temptations that we do, Jesus understands our hearts and our weaknesses. Yet, Jesus lived for the ‘long run’ and not the immediate moment.
He thought of us, because Jesus loves us. He loves us more than His own well-being when he was betrayed, whipped, scorned, and ridiculed. Can we? We all have people who want to be like us. Only through the strength of Jesus Christ can we be strong…through the greatest suffering in our lives.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13.
How does this strength comes to us? The following verse gives us our way to this strength. It is through humility, understanding, a search for Grace and Mercy, that we find the help we need when we need it most.
The questions for each of us will make the difference. Do I come to the throne of God boldly and pray for his mercy and strength? Is Jesus the center of my life, or is it my need for instant gratification? Do I pray to humbly love and forgive like Jesus?
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16
