May 4, 2016 – Psalm 17:7-9

Psalm17-7-9Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 17:7-9What do these two verses tell us?  God’s love does not fail.  God has mighty power.  Only when we seek refuge from God will we receive it.  He guards us  as He would guard our eyes.God is all powerful and majestic in loving us.  Our love for Him tends to be off and on.  We want control of who we worship and when to love.  God is a jealous God — it is all or nothing with Him.  His love does not facilitate between hot or cold. Why did God choose eyes to guard, and not ears, some some other sense.  We are people of physical senses and yet when we understand something we tend to say, I see…  When we lose our spiritual sight, we are blind, indeed.  How often we want to hide from everyone as a child and go to a safe place when we are disappointed in others or in God when our prayers elicit a NO or WAIT answer.Have you ever considered what terror would inhabit our world if God is not?  There would be world-wide chaos and evil.  There would not be a bit of wisdom or love to season the world, and no where to hide.

When I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you;  your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:6-8.

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear (reverence) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.  Proverbs 9:9-10

Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. Psalm 14:1-2
