February 4, 2016 – Psalm 46:1-3

Psalm46-1-3God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge. Psalm 46:1-3Do you know what fear feels like?  The ‘run-away’ kind of fear.  We begin life being afraid in the dark when even stuffed animals take on scary objects in the dark.  As we grow older we find more and more things to be afraid of.At first Dad and Mom’s arms are the same place to be safe, and then we need more safe places.  A wise parents teach her children of Someone whose arms steady us, and help us when we are afraid.  Someone who made us, and has more power than any scary thing can ever be.When we grow up, it will seem as if our world is shaken.  Everything we trusted is gone.  That is why Psalm 46 writer describes when the very ocean has strong waves that causes the large mountains to shake is when to trust God.  Before our lives are falling like a mountain, we need to KNOW that God is our refuge in sunny weather or in storms. The very voice of Jesus who calmed the sea, can calm our life.  Jesus was sent here to teach us – that He will forgive us when we do wrong.  Jesus is more than a teacher — He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. When we respect, listen to, trust and follow Jesus, we honor God.  The One God who promises to always help when we are in times of trouble.“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10
