February 1, 2017 – Psalm 6:10-11

God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day. Psalm 6:10-11

Ephesians 6:16 – calls this the ‘shield of faith’. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

The battleground is in our hearts.  The devil is real and he tempts us with ever increasing fervor!  How I long to be true and right, and one of God’s beloved children.  It takes loving God so much, I choose to please Him.

Tim Keller says, “The essence of Christian obedience isn’t about do’s and don’ts, but personal allegiance to Jesus.”  Loving Jesus leads to loving like Jesus.  When we love the one who teaches us, we follow, listen, and obey our teacher.  When we choose God, love God, we learn to accept His Will, and Trust His Way, and Obey His commands with Joy.There are no ‘teacher’s pets’ in God world. We simply obey in love, and thank the Lord for His justice, and not what we perceive His justice to be.When we walk totally in the Lord, He places a new song in our hearts. I often think of David, as a shepherd boy singing psalms and praises to God as he watches his sheep on a mountain side.  Did David know what the Lord had in mind for him?  Watching, caring/serving, and singing praises to God are all he knew.  Being crowned king of the Israelites wasn’t even a dream or aspiration.Living faithfully, giving God the praise and glory, and being open to God’s leading brings us to the feet of Jesus.

I will thank the Lord because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 6:17
