December 2, 2019 – Matthew 18:12-3

And calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:2-3.

I often wonder how a child can grab your heartstrings so quickly.  Then I recall this small child at church. I don’t know her name, and she doesn’t know mine.  Yet when I touch her, she responds with a quick hug and a sweet smile.  The first time we saw each other, she reached out to me first.

Our language is expressed with un-tethered love. She teaches me how Jesus loves.  Without pretense or second thought, she simply loves.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.  And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure.  I John 3:1-3.

How can we recognize God’s Love? Your steadfast love, Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.  Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord. Psalm 36:5-6.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.  Psalm 136:1

Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.” Matthew 18:4-5.
